Hays in American History

As I investigate my Hays line I am finding that the Hays were a part of the pioneer American’s.  Initial settlers of America, they fought in the French-Indian Wars, the Revolutionary War,  Indian Wars, War of 1812, Civil War (both sides), Texas War of Independence, WWI, and WWII and many others.  Hays pioneers were closely related to many notables in American History such as Andrew Jackson, Daniel Boone, Davey Crockett and in many cases are the notable one in history.  As I find them I’ll post names and links here:

  1. Texas Ranger Jack  Coffee Hays.  Travelled from middle TN to TX and eventually on to CA.  Texas Ranger and 1st Sheriff San Francisco County, CA and an early resident of Oakland, CA. links: Wikipedia, Capt.   2. General Alexander Hays, decorated Union Civil War General, Killed in Action.
  3. General Harry T. Hays, decorated CSA Civil War General, Mexican American War (brother to Ranger Jack Hays) originally a son of Tennessee.
  4. John Mims Hays, Defender of the Alamo (died).
  5. Capt. William Hays, Kentucky settler and married Susannah Boone, buried at Daniel Boone Hays Farm, MO.
  6. Seth Hays, Daniel Boone’s grandson and early Kansas settler (see also Hays, KS.)
  7. Samual Hays, early PA politician (born in Ulster, Ireland)
  8. Robert Hays, Actor and star of Airplane! (and many other ventures).
  9. Rutherford B. Hayes, 19th US President.
  10. Samuel Lewis Hays, early politician in PA and VA.
  11. Samuel Hubbard Hays, 19th century politician in Wisconsin and Idaho.
