  • 1943 April 20 US Army assigned to 32nd Red Arrow Brigade F Co. 127 Infantry Division – Papuan Campaign, New Guinea Campaign, Southern Phillippine Campaign, Luzon Campaign.  2 Purple Hearts, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Phillippine Liberation, Combat Infantry Badge, etc.

What we know: His Father died just after his birth.  [1930 Census] Ruth Hays 35, Ora 12, Wyan 10, Vida 8, Rdella (6), and James (5) living in Olton, Lamb, Tx.  [oral] “He lived with Uncle Jess (Bachelor Uncles) on the farm [1930 Census] Jessie G. Price (44) and Allie (Ollie) L. Price (40) on a rented farm in Chandler, Comanche, OK.  [1940 Census] Ruth “Peters” 44, Vida Mae Peters (18), R Della Peters (16), James H. Peters (15) in Plainview, Hale, Tx (inferred residence in 1936 Floydada, Floyd, Tx but who?).  [oral] went to CA at 16 to work in his buddies car upholstery shop.  [personal military papers] Inducted into the US Army 20 Apr 1943 32nd Red Arrow Brigade, F Co., 127th Infantry in Pacific Theater (Papuan (Buna), Aitape, Leyte,  and Luzon Campaigns). 2 Purple Hearts, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, etc. etc.  Sgt. (Squad Leader) Voluntary reduction to Private, ETS 4 DEC 1945.  Reenlist 22 Jul 1946, service to include Explosives Ordinance, the Korean War and Vietnam War.  [??] 1952?
